Rattling Books Rattling Books is a Canadian Audio Book publisher based in Newfoundland and Labrador. Rattling Books produces Canadian audio books and other spoken word audio recordings in the style of a small literary press. Rattling Books is the audio book world's equivalent of the small literary press, paying special attention to the selection of titles for their literary merit. Great pains are taken to select appropriate voices and to produce an elegantly simple product. So SMALL, we're fine. Rattling Books is an imprint of Alca Productions Inc. with a mandate to produce new media and traditional audio translations of Canadian literature. We focus on Canadian literary fiction and poetry and outdoor adventure based non-fiction. Rattling Books produces works of literary and historical merit as either audio CD or MP3-CDs and digitally downloadable file formats,. Shorter works are presented as Audio CDs while longer unabridged fiction and nonfiction are presented using the MP3 format.
Alca Productions Inc. was incorporated in Canada on September 30, 2003 by its current president, Janet Russell. Rattling Books, the audio publishing imprint of Alca Productions, was launched in December of 2003.
Rattling Books has a fondness for work with links, however tenuous, to Newfoundland and Labrador. This is reflected by our logo, a Razorbill (Alca torda). The centre of this seabird’s North American breeding distribution is Labrador. Razorbills also breed on islands off the coast from Tors Cove, the home of Rattling Books. Also known in Newfoundland as Tinkers the Razorbill’s vocalization is a rattling sound.
