Wangersky, Russell

Originally from Connecticut, journalist and writer of fiction and non-fiction Russell Wangersky grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His debut short story collection, The Hour of Bad Decisions (Coteau, 2006), won a gold medal at the Independent Publisher Book Awards and was long-listed for the ScotiaBank/Giller Prize and short-listed for the Commonwealth Best First Book Award (Canada and the Caribbean). Burning Down the House: Fighting Fires and Losing Myself (Thomas Allen, 2008), a memoir of his eight years as a volunteer firefighter, won the Edna Staebler Award, the Rogers Cable Non-fiction Award, the British Columbia National Book Award for Canadian Non-Fiction and the Drummer General’s Award.

Wangersky lives in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
