Dalton, Mary

Canadian writer Mary Dalton was born in Lake View in Conception Bay, Newfoundland. Her poems, reviews, essays and interviews have been published in journals and anthologies in Canada, Ireland and the United States.

Dalton’s poetry has won various awards, including several Newfoundland and Labrador Arts and Letters awards and the inaugural TickleAce/Cabot Award for Poetry. Her collection Merrybegot (Véhicule Press, 2003) received the E.J. Pratt Poetry Award and the Newfoundland and Labrador Book Award for Poetry, and was short-listed for the Winterset Award, the Pat Lowther Memorial Award and the 2005 Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage and History Award. Red Ledger (Véhicule Press, 2006) was short-listed for the Atlantic Book Award for Poetry and the E.J. Pratt Poetry Award.

Dalton resides in St. John’s, where she teaches English at Memorial University.
