Born in Placentia, Agnes Walsh is an actor, poet, playwright and storyteller based in Newfoundland. She has won Newfoundland and Labrador Arts and Letters awards for poetry as well as TickleAce poetry and ballad writing awards. Her poems have been translated into French and Portuguese and she has toured Canada, the eastern U.S., Portugal, and Ireland reading from her work. Agnes Walsh is also the founder of the Tramore Theatre Troupe on the Cape Shore of Placentia Bay, an effort dedicated to preserving and presenting the oral history of that area. She has recently adapted an Icelandic novel by Nobel Prize-winning author Halldor Laxness for the theatre. In 2006 Agnes Walsh was inducted as the first Poet Laureate for the City of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.
